What Is a Root Canal?

The best option for anyone is to keep their natural teeth whenever possible. Nothing fully replaces what you are born with. That is why my priority is always to help patients save their own teeth.

When a cavity becomes very deep and reaches the nerve of the tooth, a root canal may be needed. If you come in early, when pain first starts, root canal treatment is usually very comfortable and has a high success rate.

If treatment is delayed and the infection spreads, the success of a root canal can decrease. That is why timing matters. When it is safe and appropriate, saving the tooth is usually the best option compared to removing it.
